Joojoo Revamp

Posted in Uncategorized by sideshowcoder on March 14, 2010

So the Joojoo is still alive, reading through the News Engadget had a look at the restyled Interface, which in my opinon is really good work. Also the specs which got out of the FCC tell us the Joojoo will feature 3G Wireless, as well as Nvidia ION and Atom CPU.

After all looking at those specs as well as the new homescreen, Fusion Garage certainly put some real work into the Joojoo after Apple announced the iPad, and the Joojoo just had to be compared to it. As long as Fusion Garage manages to handle the power needed to run an Intel Atom + ION combo well enough to get a decent battery live, they seem to have a great Product coming, I just can’t wait. After all the 3G made it even more desirable.

I just hope that they can build a decent community around the Joojoo, maybe by keeping it hackable, which might be quite easy seeing Pictures of the Joojoo running Windows 7.

    Thanks for the info! Although, we are still uncertain on the inclusion of a 3G radio in the first-gen initial release. I have been researching and evaluating the JooJoo tablet for the past week and a half, reading into the legal and contextual arguments behind the scenes between TechCrunch and Fusion Garage, and trying to understand more on the nature of battery life, keyboard integration and the rumored 3G radio. As a journalist, I am looking forward to the updates that you and any other sources are able to surface behind the mess of Google search and I hope to further my knowledge on this promising capacitive multitouch tablet.

      Well It seems pretty clear to me that the joojoo will have some 3G since it includes a SIM Card slot, as seen in the FCC specs. There might be 2 Versions maybe but at least one will have 3G. In my use case 3G would really be kind of essential, or at least an option to tether with other devices.
      It’s really hard to search through all the half knowlege you will find on Google, that’s true, that’s why I try to keep to known facts, and rather take a little longer to write them up.

      Thanks for your Comment

    I too believe the Joojoo will be a very hackable. And I now know there probably arent very many of us. I think it would be a very good idea if we set up a forum for Joojoo owners to compare notes.

    I dont believe the current crop will ship with 3G. But if you want it you can add it. All you need to do is pop a cpci-e card into the slot and get a SIM from you cell provider. A larger (up to 3 figure GB) SSD is also a possibility. Maybe with an alternatve OS like Windows or Linux or Darwin.

    Cheers;
    Bob

    I was able to speak with Chandra Rathakrishnan, CEO of Fusion Garage, on Saturday, April 3, 2010 following the launch of the Apple iPad in downtown San Francisco.

    Three weeks ago, one of my roommates found that his iPod touch 3rd generation was damaged due to water contact. Thankfully, his warranty plan allowed him to receive a refund check for roughly 75% of the original purchase value. Over the next two weeks, he was contemplating the decision of purchasing a replacement iPod touch 3rd generation or waiting two weeks until the iPad was to be released. After thoroughly considering his options and discussing the matter with him, we decided that we would camp out at the flagship Apple Store in downtown San Francisco for a launch-day iPad (to replace his iPod), as he essentially viewed the iPad as an iPod Touch XL (which, it is ;) .

    Although I have absolutely no interest in purchasing a first-generation Apple iPad, I decided to camp out along with my roommate for the sole purpose of telling the press why I DON’T want to buy the first-generation hardware. Over the course of the long, 14-hour night, I was approached by many faces in the journalism world, particularly VentureBeat, CNET and TechCrunch, who all interviewed me and curiously asked why I was first in line out of an estimated 7,500 people and I wasn’t going to purchase one.

    I gave them my full-fledged opinion, mainly noting that the first-generation iPad is not a forward-thinking device and lacks many hardware features that could have elevated it into a category of tablet computing excellence. Consequently, I noted that Apple Inc. as a corporation has the ability to influence the market and set the standards for an entirely new computing paradigm – the tablet revolution – but they decidedly are not doing so with this first-generation device.

    During the course of our campout in front of the Apple Store that night, VentureBeat journalist Paul Boutin approached us in line with his brand new FusionGarage JooJoo that he was sent for review. I proceeded to kindly thank him for bringing it with him as I was quite eager to experience the tablet for myself at the time.

    Basically, the JooJoo was moderately disappointing. I would love to give a recap of my explanations, but every single one of my viewpoints can be summed up exactly as Paul Miller wrote in his review on Engadget:
